Fettercairn 50 Year Old

A HALF CENTURY, PRESERVED IN GLASS

On 11 June 1966, a spirit was distilled at Fettercairn on a clear summer’s day. Few could have known that the whisky would remain in cask for the next half century, eventually becoming one of the distillery’s most exceptional releases.

In 2018, the long-awaited Fettercairn 50 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was unveiled. Only 324 bottles were produced, making this a highly exclusive expression of Fettercairn’s history and craftsmanship.

Matured in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels and finished in Tawny Port Pipe Cask No. 1, the whisky represents five decades of patience, resulting in a rich and distinctive character of refined tobacco, ginger and nutmeg.

THE ART OF THE BOTTLE

For a whisky of such rarity, the presentation demanded an equally exceptional level of craftsmanship.

Giles Lawson Johnston created the bespoke brass inlay and engraved detailing for the bottle, combining traditional techniques with a refined contemporary finish. The work transforms the vessel from a container for an exceptional whisky into a piece of craftsmanship in its own right.

The precision of the brass inlay complements the engraved glass, creating a considered relationship between metal, glass and whisky — each element contributing to the character of the finished presentation.

A PIECE OF FETTERCAIRN HISTORY

The Fettercairn 50 Year Old represents more than fifty years of maturation. It captures a moment in the distillery’s history and preserves it in an object designed to endure.

From the spirit distilled in 1966 to the craftsmanship applied to each bottle more than half a century later, the project brings together heritage, patience and artistry.

With only 324 bottles released, the Fettercairn 50 Year Old stands as a rare expression of the distillery — and the engraved and brass-inlaid bottle as a lasting example of the art of glass.
