Giles Lawson Johnston’s work with Ballindalloch Distillery brings together two distinctly Scottish traditions: exceptional single malt whisky and the enduring craft of engraved glass. Across three special releases, each bottle becomes a unique expression of Ballindalloch’s heritage, landscape and craftsmanship.

HERITAGE IN EVERY DETAIL
Created to celebrate the character of Ballindalloch’s early single malt, the Ballindalloch 2014 represents the beginning of a new chapter in the estate’s long heritage. Distilled during the distillery’s inaugural year and matured for a decade, the Speyside single malt reflects the character and origins of Ballindalloch.
Each bottle was individually transformed by Giles Lawson Johnston, featuring a bespoke engraved design and carefully applied gold inlay. Working from the Scottish Highlands, Giles continues a family tradition in the art of engraved glass, using specialist sandblasting techniques before completing each design with luxurious gold detailing.
The result is more than a presentation for exceptional whisky. It is a meeting of heritage, craftsmanship and place, bringing the story of Ballindalloch to life through glass.

SUNRISE OVER THE BEN 2014
A LEGACY REIMAGINED
Sunrise Over The Ben is Ballindalloch Distillery’s oldest release to date, drawn from the third cask ever distilled at the distillery. Filled on 25 September 2014, the whisky was matured in a first-fill bourbon barrel before spending three years in a red wine barrique, and was bottled at cask strength of 58.8% ABV on 1 July 2025.
For this one-of-one presentation, Giles Lawson Johnston drew inspiration from the morning sun rising over Ben Rinnes. The sun-shaped bottle rests within a piece of antique crystal cullet, creating a presentation that connects the whisky directly to the landscape and heritage of Ballindalloch.
The piece also continues a deeply personal family connection. Giles is the son of the late Hon. Andrew Lawson Johnston, who held the prestigious Royal Warrant for Artist in Glass. Andrew acquired the precious crystal cullet in the 1960s and engraved pieces for Ballindalloch’s private collection. Today, Giles continues that legacy through his own work, bringing the same heritage of precision and craftsmanship to a new generation.

75TH BIRTHDAY OF KING CHARLES III
A CELEBRATION IN GLASS
Created as a limited-edition engraved bottle to commemorate the 75th birthday of King Charles III, this Ballindalloch expression celebrates the distinctive heritage of the estate and its commitment to craftsmanship.
The whisky is distilled from barley grown on Ballindalloch’s own farm, using pure water from the Seven Garline Springs, before being matured for eight years. From the origins of the barley to the water drawn from the estate, the whisky reflects the character and provenance of Ballindalloch.
The bottle was individually engraved by Giles Lawson Johnston, adding a bespoke element of Scottish craftsmanship to a whisky created for a significant royal occasion.
The finished piece brings together place, tradition and artistry — a celebration of Ballindalloch’s heritage presented through the enduring craft of engraved glass.
